CUSA college football heats up with the UTEP Miners hosting the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers on Saturday.
The Alabama-Birmingham Blazers have been red hot with five consecutive victories after a 29-21 victory against North Texas as a 1.5 point home favorite. Alabama-Birmingham gave up 400 yards and responded with 392 yards with 19-0 second half rally securing the win.
Blazers quarterback AJ Erdely completed 14-22 for 189 yards and totaled 23 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Spencer Brown was the top option for UAB on the ground with a 100 yard day on 25 carries with three trips to the end zone while Jarrion Street adding 59 yards on four tries. The Alabama-Birmingham passing attack featured nine players making receptions as the team did spread the field with several 14+ yard gains.
The Texas El Paso Miners have not won a game but the team has shown a lot of improvement. Texas El Paso comes off of a 31-24 loss at Louisiana Tech as a 22 point underdog where the team held a small 356-325 edge yardage.
Miners quarterback Ryan Metz completed 11-17 for 164 with a touchdown and a pick six while Brandon Jones connected on 7-15 for another 98 yards.
Texas El Paso could not move the ball on the ground with Metz leading the rushing attack with only 28 yards on 12 touches. Keynan Foster was the Miners top receiving option with 84 yards on four receptions including a 25 yard scoring catch.
