The Alamodome and the UTSA Roadrunners host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in college football action.
At 3-1 the Southern Miss Golden Eagles appear to have successfully rebuilt and have become a conference power. The Golden Eagles overcame a slow first half to down visiting Rice 44-28 as a 26 point favorite behind a 702-346 yardage edge with three turnovers likely keeping the scoreboard from getting too far out of hand. USM had no running game to speak of and didn’t seem to try with Ito Smith the only runner of notice with 77 yards and a TD on 19 carries. Southern Miss quarterback Nick Mullens shouldered the offense, completing 25-36 for 591 yards and four touchdowns with an interception with Allen Staggers grabbing six balls for 292 yards and three scores while Julian Allen caught three passes for 101 yards.
The UTSA Roadrunners are just 1-3 with their lone win coming against an FCS squad but they haven’t been completely awful with a four point loss to Arizona State. In week five, UTSA went on the road and gave Old Dominion some trouble before falling 33-19 as they were outgained 445-362 and gave the ball away twice. Roadrunners quarterbacks Dalton Sturm and Jared Johnson combined to go 16-29 for 203 yards with Sturm throwing an interception. Josh Stewart led the Texas-San Antonio receiving corps with 80 yards on four receptions while Jarveon Williams was the top runner with 93 yards and a trip to the endzone on 21 touches so the offense produced just enough to where the Monarchs defense had to be on full alert.
Southern Miss are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win and the under is 7-1 in Golden Eagles last 8 games in October while Southern Miss are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The over is 4-0 in UTSA last 4 games following a straight up loss and UTSA are 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games while the over is 4-1 in UTSA last 5 conference games.
Southern Miss is heading towards becoming a monster again but have LSU on deck and UTSA can hang around so for now I’ll back the Golden Eagles and dig further so check back…
