The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners play host to the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles in week 12 action.
The Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners looked like they would be a factor in the CUSA West when the season opened but key injuries at quarterback have been too much too overcome and has killed their ability to score. The Roadrunners are looking for some points when Southern Mississippi comes to town Saturday with virtually no scoring in a 17-7 loss at Rice in week eleven dropped them to 2-11. UTSA trailed 17-0 before scoring in the 4th but the team was never in this one with the Owls holding a 420-257 yardage edge with little balalance and less then 19 minutes of possession. Austin Robinson and David Glasco II combined for 78 rushing yards while Robinson and Tucker Carter combined for 153 passing yards with Robinson hitting Kenny Bias tossing a 24 yard touchdown.
Even though the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles don't have a great record I think it's accurate to say this team has improved over recent years. After Saturday's 63-17 rout at the hands of visiting Marshall it's hard to say this was an improved squad as the Thundering Herd rolled up 521 yards with 335 yards coming on the ground. The Golden Eagles mustered 300 yards with most coming during their 17 point first half. Cole Weeks gave USM air attack 114 yards on 11-14 with an interception while Southern Miss tried to establish the run with some success as Ito Smith rambled for 141 yards on 27 touches with a pair of two yard scores. Jalen Richard added another 46 yards but the bottom line is the Golden Eagles held the ball for 35 minutes and Marshall scored very quickly.
The Golden Eagles are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game while the over is 6-1 in Golden Eagles last 7 Thursday games. For Texas-San Antonio the under is 4-0 in Roadrunners last 4 games following a S.U. loss while the Roadrunners are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on grass with the under going 6-0 in Roadrunners last 6 home games. If Texas-San Antonio was at full strength and they were playing as they did to kick off the season I'd be all over them. Having said that Southern Miss isn't awe inspiring...
