The Line: Vanderbilt Commodores +13.5 -- Over/Under:
The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Florida Gators face off on Saturday in Nashville for a SEC college football matchup.
The Vanderbilt Commodores aren’t the team we have seen in recent years but even so if they can manage to win out their regular season schedule they will make it to a bowl game. Vandy has been struggling from game one at QB and while they are improved since then they just don’t have the roster to compete with the better teams in the SEC. The Vanderbilt offense is averaging 19.9 points and 295.2 yards per game, which just doesn’t get it done, but current QB Johnny McCrary is coming off of a five-touchdown game and he has completed 59.5 percent of his passes for eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Ralph Webb has anchored the Vandy rushing attack with 760 yards and three touchdowns and Steven Scheu leads the receivers with 28 catches and two touchdowns and C.J. Duncan has 25 catches and four touchdowns. Defensively Vanderbilt is allowing 32.3 points and 403.6 yards per game creating 11 turnovers. Nigel Bowden has 68 tackles, Torren McGaster has 49 tackles, and Caleb Azubike has four sacks. All games are must win for Vanderbilt at this point.
The Florida Gators are having a rough season by their standards but they are coming off of their biggest win in a few years knocking off their rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs, in their rivalry game in Jacksonville. It has been a tough run for UF Head Coach Will Muschamp but he is hoping with a strong finish he can save is job. The Florida offense is averaging 30 points and 379 yards per game and they have had an injection of life with QB Treon Harris who has completed 62.5 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and an interception and he has rushed for 88 yards and another score. Matt Jones is Florida’s leading rusher with 616 yards and five touchdowns and Demarcus Robinson is the Gators leading receiver with 34 receptions and four touchdowns. The Florida defense allows 24.7 points per game and 337.7 yards and they have sacked opposing QB’s 20 times. Antonio Morrison has 67 tackles, a sack, and an interception, Keanu Neal has three interceptions, and A McCallister has four sacks. Florid is hoping they can ride the momentum of their win over Georgia to the end of the season and beyond.
Vanderbilt is 4-0 against the spread in their last four SEC games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six games, and 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games. Florida is 5-0 against the spread against a team with a losing record, 1-4 against the spread following a win, and 0-5 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread. Florida is 4-1 against the spread in their last five meetings at Vandy.
The number is fairly high but Florida’s defense looks stronger now that the offense is helping out and I look for the Gators to pour it on here.
