Notre Dame will try to keep things rolling as they travel to take on the Virginia Cavaliers.
Virginia will try to get their first win of the season against the tough Notre Dame Irish this week. Virginia is coming off a disappointing 34-16 loss to the UCLA Bruins. To be fair UCLA is one of the top teams in the country. Quarterback Matt Jones was 21/35 for 238 yards and 1 touchdown and an interception last Saturday. Running backs Taquan Mizzell and Alber Reid combined for 76 yards last game. The Virginia run was non-existent last week and they will need to get it going if they want to win this week. Taquan Mizzell was the leading receiver for the Cavaliers with 8 receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. Canaan Severin was the leading Wide Receiver with 5 catches for 58 yards. Virginia’s defense was roughed up allowing 503 yards of total offense. Linebacker Micah Kiser led the defense with 10 total tackles. Virginia will get a break as they now face a Notre Dame team that looked very good last week.
Notre Dame is coming off of a huge blowout win over Texas 38-3. Leading the charge for Notre Dame will quarterback Malik Zaire who was 19/22 for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns last week. Unfortunately running back Tarean Folston has been injured and will be out from the year. C.J Prosise took over for him and on 20 carries rushed for 98 yards. Leading the Fighting Irish in receiving was Will Fuller who caught 7 passes for 142 yards and 2 touchdowns. Notre Dame’s defense looked good Saturday allowing only 3 points. Linebacker Jaylon Smith led the defense with 6 tackles and 1 sack. Notre Dame will look to keep this hot offense rolling next week as they take on the vulnerable Virginia defense.
Notre Dame is 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 games overall. Notre Dame is 14 against the spread vs. a team with a losing record. Virginia is 4-0-1 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games. Virginia is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games vs. an independent team.
Notre Dame looked very impressive last week, while Virginia struggled. I think Notre Dame will be too much for Virginia to handle. Take Notre Dame to cover this spread easily.
