Virginia Tech is coming off of a tough loss to the Miami Hurricanes 30-20 making their record 3-4. Wide Receiver Isaiah Ford led the team with 4 catches for 76 yards and 1 touchdown. Receiver Bucky Hodges also added 2 catches for 41 yards. Luckily for Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer who started the season and got hurt against Ohio State will be starting this week against Duke. This could give Virginia Tech the spark they have been missing.
The Duke Blue Devils are coming off of a bye week but before that they defeated the Army Black Knights 44-3. Quarterback Thomas Sirk went 17/27 for 197 yards and a touchdown. Sirk also added 13 carries for 53 rushing yards. Running back Jela Duncan carried the ball 8 times for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns. Patrick Boehme also added 7 carries for 26 yards and 2 touchdowns. Receiver Johnell Barnes led the team with 2 catches for 58 yards. Anthony Nash also recorded 5 catches for 57 yards. The Duke Blue Devils have been a good team this season only losing 1 game. Duke will try to keep their winning season going when they travel to Virginia Tech this weekend.
The Duke Blue Devils are 9-1-1 against the spread in their last 11 road games vs. a team with a losing record. Duke is 9-2 against the spread vs. a team with a losing record. Virgina Tech is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games following a loss. The Hokies are 0-6 against the spread in their last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
Virgina Tech will be getting their starting quarterback this week which should give Virginia Tech some energy. Duke has only lost one game this year and will be up for the challenge against the Hokies. Being at home with a good defense and a healthy quarterback il take Virginia Tech to cover against Duke.
