Virginia Tech will try to get back on track this week when they take on Furman at home.
Virginia Tech is coming off of a home loss to Ohio State in which they were competitive until their starting quarterback Michael Brewer got hurt. Unfortunately Brewer is out for most of the year with a collarbone injury. Back up quarterback Brenden Motley was 4/9 for 40 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Running back J.C. Coleman didn’t have much going for him he had 12 carries for 43 yards. Wide Receivers Sam Rogers and Isaiah Ford were the leading receivers last week with 3 receptions each for a combined 127 yards and 2 touchdowns. The defense played well in the first half but was eventually overwhelmed by one of the best offenses in the country. Safety Desmond Frye led the defense with 4 tackles and an interception. Fortunately it will get easier as Virginia Tech will take on Furman this week.
Furman is coming off a tough 38-35 loss against Coastal Carolina. Quarterback Reese Hannon went 27/41 for 365 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. Running backs Ernie Cain and Antonio Wilcox combined for 20 carries and 110 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jordan Snellings and Antonio Wilcox were the leading receivers last week. Together they combined for 13 receptions and 172 yards and 1 touchdown. Furman’s defense was roughed up allowing 38 points. Now they will take on Virginia Tech who will be a tougher opponent.
Virginia Tech showed signs of being a good team last game. I think Virginia Tech will get back on track this week with a much easier opponent in Furman. Virginia Tech will win this game easily.
