The Line: Virginia Cavaliers +7.5 -- Over/Under:
The Miami Hurricanes will meet the Virginia Cavaliers at Scott Stadium on Saturday in ACC college football action.
Miami comes into this game at 5-1 overall. The Hurricanes fell to LSU in their opener, but since have taken out Savannah State, Toledo, FIU, North Carolina and Florida State in succession.
In the Seminoles game, Miami QB N’Kosi Perry led the way with 204 yards and four touchdowns, with Travis Homer backing it up on 70 yards from 21 carries. Jeff Thomas led the Hurricanes receivers with three grabs for 76 yards and a TD.
Over on the Virginia side, they’re currently 3-2 this season. The Cavaliers took out Richmond in the opener, then lost to Indiana before rattling off a pair of wins over Ohio and Louisville. In Virginia’s last appearance they tallied a 35-21 loss to NC State.
In the NC State game, Virginia QB Bryce Perkins managed 258 yards with two TDs and two INTs. Leading both the rush (39 yards; two carries) and the receivers (109 yards; two TD; nine receptions) was Olamide Zaccheaus.
The Hurricanes are 3-7 in their last 10 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games. Miami is 1-5 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 0-4 ATS in their last four in October.
Meanwhile, Virginia is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 following a bye week and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. the Cavs are also 8-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Miami’s big comeback win over Florida State in their last appearance was pretty epic. The ‘Canes were down 20-7 at halftime but outscored the Seminoles 21-7 in the second half to eke out a 28-27 victory. That result continues a nice scoring run for Miami.
As for Virginia, they played reasonably well against a tough NC State team, and have put up at least three touchdowns in each of their last three games.
I think the Cavaliers should be able to keep pace here, at least for a while, and I’m going to take them for a tight cover.
