The Wake Forest Demon Deacons will host Elon Phoenix in their 2015 season opener Thursday night.
Wake Forest finished last season with a 3-9 record. They return 13 starters from that team. Wake Forest is one of the youngest teams in the nation again. Quarterback John Wolford had a rough freshman year mainly because the offensive line was dread full. With only two starters returning on the offensive line, it looks like Wolford may be running for his life again. Wake Forest's defense wasn’t that bad last season. Linebackers Brandon Chubb and Marquel Lee provide experience and a lot of talent to lead this defense. The Demon Deacons have some questions marks in the secondary though. Wake Forest will need to protect their quarterback if they want to have a chance.
Elon’s first experience in the CAA did not go so well. They did not win a single game conference game. Elon enter this year with no experience at quarterback and will likely start freshmen Connor Christiansen. Elon returns their running back Tracey Coppedge who lead them in rushing yards with 663 yards. Elon return 3 of their 5 top tacklers from last season on defense. Linebacker John Silas recorded 100 tackles last season and will be the leader on this defense.
Wake Forest is 1-7 straight up in their last 8 games and the under is 6-1 in their last 7 games at home. Elon is 0-5 straight up in their last 5 games.
I don’t see Elon putting up much fight against Wake Forest especially on the road. They have no experience at quarterback so I expect Wake Forest to win this game easily.
