The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons will match up on the college football circuit Friday.

The Tar Heels come into this one in good shape with a 2-0 record overall. North Carolina took care of South Carolina in the opener 24-20, then managed a 28-25 win over Miami (FL) in Week 2.

In the victory over the Hurricanes, North Carolina QB Sam Howell posted 274 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns. Javonte Williams led the Tar Heels rush on 76 yards with one score, and Dyami Brown had 80 yards and a TD on four grabs.

Over on the Wake Forest side, they’ve started things out 2-0 as well, with a 38-35 win over Utah State in the opener and a 41-21 victory against Rice this past weekend.

Jamie Newman had a good game against Rice for the Deacons, posting 312 yards and three touchdowns. Kenneth Walker led the rush with 125 yards and a TD, while Scotty Washington went off for 158 yards and two touchdowns receiving.

The Tar Heels are 8-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. North Carolina is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 conference games and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 in September.

Meanwhile, the Deacons are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 overall and 3-7 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Wake Forest is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games and 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win.

The Tar Heels get credit for not folding late against Miami, where they watched a 17-3 first-quarter lead evaporate gradually. NC pulled it together and scored eight in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

As for Wake, they’ve got some explosive playmakers on the roster and if they get rolling then can be really dangerous. I like the Deacons here in what should be an entertaining game.
