The Line: Washington Huskies -26 -- Over/Under: 55
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will travel to play the Washington Huskies to open up the season.
The Washington Huskies were 7-6 last season and beat Southern Miss by a score of 44-31 in their bowl game. The Washington offense averaged 30.6 points per game with 163.8 rushing yards and 239.2 passing yards per game. Jake Browning returns as the Washington quarterback after throwing for 2,955 yards and 16 touchdowns last year. Myles Gaskin returns as the running back after rushing for 1,302 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2015. Dante Pettis returns at receiver after hauling in 30 passes for 414 yards and 1 touchdown. The Washington defense allowed 18.8 points per game with 125.3 rushing yards and 226.5 passing yards per game. Washington was very solid on defense and should give PAC-12 offenses troubles once again this season. Azeem Victor returns at linebacker after leading Washington in tackling with 95 tackles in 2015. Sidney Jones looks to lead the secondary after totaling 4 interceptions last year. Washington has a very solid team coming into the 2016 season.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights were 4-8 last season and finished the season by losing 5 of their last 6 games. The Rutgers offense averaged 27.1 points per game with 169.9 rushing yards and 207.1 passing yards per game last season. Chris Laviano returns at quarterback after throwing for 2,247 yards and 16 touchdowns. Robert Martin and Josh Hicks return at running back after combining for over 1400 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. Janarion Grant returns at receiver after having 352 yards and 1 touchdown last season. The Rutgers defense gave up 34.9 points per game with 186.1 rushing yards and 275.9 passing yards per game in 2015. Anthony Cioffi looks to help the secondary improve after posting 4 interceptions last season. Rutgers has to fill some pieces that left after last season, but will definitely have to improve after a very poor defensive 2015 season.
Rutgers is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against the PAC-12 and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games. The under is 5-2 in the last 7 non-conference games for Rutgers. Washington is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September. The over is 4-1 in Washington’s last 5 games.
Washington comes into this season with very high expectations and should have a very good season. Rutgers continues to look to rebuild and will be going into a very hostile environment. Washington should win this game with no problem, but I am going with Rutgers to keep this game respectable.
