The Line: Washington Huskies -9.5 -- Over/Under:
The Stanford Cardinal will travel to Husky Stadium to take on the Washington Huskies this upcoming Saturday night in College Football action.
The Stanford Cardinal dropped to 5-3 (3-2 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the 14th ranked Washington State Cougars, 41-38, this past Saturday. In a high scoring, back and forth game, Stanford had no answers for the Cougars top-ranked passing attack and allowed Washington State to seal the victory after a Blake Mazza 42-yard FG with 19 seconds left gave the Cougars the lead for good. Stanford was outgained by a 497-443 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 1-0 margin. Leading the way for the Cardinal was QB K.J. Costello who completed 34 of 43 passes for 323 yards and 4 TD. On the season, Stanford is averaging 26.5 ppg on 365.8 total yards per game (270.6 passing yds/g; 95.1 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Stanford has been led b K.J. Costello who has completed 66.9% of his passes for 17 TD & 6 INT while averaging 270.6 passing yds/g. The top receiving targets for Costello and the Cardinal have been JJ Arcega-Whiteside (5.9 rec/g; 92.9 yds/g; 11 TD), Kaden Smith (4.5 rec/g; 61.8 yds/g; TD), and Trenton Irwin (5.3 rec/g; 55.4 yds/g). Leading the way for the Cardinal backfield has been Bryce Love who has 3 rushing TD’s on the season while averaging 69.8 yds/g on 15.5 att/g. Defensively, Stanford is allowing their opponents to average 23.3 ppg on 416.5 total yards per game (275.4 passing yds/g; 141.1 rushing yds/g).
The Washington Huskies dropped to 6-3 (4-2 Pac-12) on the season after getting upset by the California Golden Bears, 12-10, this past Saturday. Washington found the end zone early in the game, taking a 7-0 lead midway through the 1st quarter, however, the Huskies couldn’t find any success the rest of the way on the offensive end and couldn’t fight back after a Jack Browning pick-6 gave Golden Bears a 12-7 lead in which they would relinquish. Washington outgained California by a 250-242 margin however, loss the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Huskies was WR Ty Jones who had 50 receiving yards and a TD on 3 receptions. On the season, Washington is averaging 26.6 ppg on 410.4 total yards per game (242.7 passing yds/g; 167.8 rushing yds/g). Offensively, Washington has been led by QB Jake Browning who has completed 64.1% of his passes for 12 TD & 8 INT while averaging 227.7 passing yds/g. The top receiving targets for Browning and the Huskies have been Aaron Fuller (4.8 rec/g; 75.0 yds/g; 3 TD), Ty Jones (2.6 rec/g; 45.4 yds/g; 6 TD), and Drew Sample (2.0 rec/g; 22.7 yds/g; TD). The Huskies backfield has been led by the duo of Myles Gaskin (19.9 att/g; 89.0 yds/g; 5 TD) and Salvon Ahmed (7.6 att/g; 43.3 yds/g; 5 TD). Gaskin has missed his last two games due to a shoulder injury and is currently questionable for this game. Defensively, Washington is holding their opponents to an average of 15.2 ppg on 301.2 total yards per game (171.7 passing yds/g; 129.6 rushing yds/g).
The Cardinal are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 games following an ATS loss. The Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record however, are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
Stanford is an interesting team this season as they are not the Cardinal team that we’re used as despite having Bryce Love, have become more of a pass first team and have actually struggled on the defensive end. Washington came into this season with high expectations however, it’s been a disappointing season for the Huskies as their offense just hasn’t been able to click despite have experienced veterans in Jake Browning & Myles Gaskin. Washington hasn’t played with any urgency since their loss at Oregon that knocked out them out of the CFB Playoff picture and as Stanford does have a passing attack which is the best way to score points on the Huskies, I think the Cardinal do enough with the points to cover in this one.
