The Line: Western Kentucky Hilltoppers -7.5 -- Over/Under: 71
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles for the CUSA championship.
The rebuilding of the Southern Miss Golden Eagles appears to be completed with the team winning six in a row to end the regular season and earn a spot in the CUSA title game. The Golden Eagles have been getting the job done on both sides of the line of scrimmage and continued to do so in a 58-13 rout of Louisiana Tech on the road in week 13. USM racked up 555 yards and gave up 405 yards and forced seven turnovers including a pick six. Nick Mullens gave the Golden Eagles 386 passing yards and three touchdowns and an interception on 24-37 with Michael Thomas catching seven balls for 162 yards and a score. Ito Smith was the Golden Eagles go to man on the ground with 169 yards and three TD’s on 22 touches.
At times it might not have looked like it but the potent offense of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers has gotten much more help from their defense in reaching the CUSA title then a season ago. The Hilltoppers waffled defending conference champion Marshall 49-28 as the jumped out to a 35-14 lead at the half before cruising the rest of the way. WKY logged 546 yards with two lost fumbles while the Thundering Herd mustered 273 yards but committed four turnovers. Brandon Doughty gave the Hilltoppers another huge game through the air with370 yards and five touchdowns on 27-39 with Tyler Higbee snagging six balls for 92 yards and a pair of scores. Anthony Wales led Western Kentucky on the ground with 131 yards and a TD on 24 totes with D’Andre Ferby adding another 62 yards.
The under is 8-0 in Golden Eagles last 8 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game and the Golden Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game while going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games on fieldturf. The over is 4-0 in Hilltoppers last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game and is 6-0 in Hilltoppers last 6 vs. a team with a winning record while the Hilltoppers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game. I will go with the Hilltoppers for now but check back for an update…
