The Wisconsin Badgers travel to Memorial Stadium looking to shutdown Illinois Fighting Illini.
The defensive minded Wisconsin Badgers have been tough to score on which has made average scoring work. The Badgers have forged a 5-2 record following a 24-7 win versus visiting Purdue. The Wisky defense held the Boilermakers to just 191 while gaining 418 yards themselves with an efficient passing attack leading the way. Quarterback Joel Stave was deadly in the air with 322 yards and an interception on a 30-39 performance. Alex Erickson paced the Badgers receiving corps with nine catches for 86 yards. Dare Ogunbowale was Wisconsin’s runner with 56 yards on 18 totes with a touchdown.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are off to a nice 4-2 start to the year which could have been better if not for a 29-20 defeat at Iowa in week six. The Hawkeyes led 478-363 in yardage and forced a pair of turnovers with the Fighting Illini doing most of their damage with very little help from the rushing attack. Quarterback Wes Lunt was the focus of the Illini attack as he completed 25-42 for 317 yards including a 53 yard scoring strike to Geronimo Allison who logged eight receptions for 148 yards. The Fighting Illini didn’t receive much from the ground game with a 19 carry, 67 yard effort by Ke’Shawn Vaughn about it.
The under is 4-0 in Badgers last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game and the Badgers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games while the under is 4-0 in Badgers last 4 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game. The Fighting Illini are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games and are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games in October while the under is 4-0 in Fighting Illini last 4 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Illinois and is 9-3 in the last 12 meetings. I’m a defensive guy and that means I’m gravitating to Wisconsin…
