The Old Dominion Monarchs go on the road to face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in CUSA college football.
The Old Dominion Monarchs are trying to navigate the dangerous waters of CUSA college football and they have been doing fine so far with three consecutive victories after downing Massachusetts as a 12 point home favorite. The Monarchs dominated the boxscore with 522 yards in a balanced attack while limiting the Minutemen to 396 yards and a pair of turnovers along with less then 24 minutes of possession. ODU quarterback David Washington threw for 248 yards and a touchdown on 20-35 with top receiving option Zach Pascal caught six passes on 92 yards. Jeremy Cox paced Old Dominion on the ground with 162 yards and a pair of TD’s on 24 totes with Ray Lawry totaling 88 yards with a score on 12 touches.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were one of the most feared offenses in college football a year ago and also had a competent defense but they have struggled more then expected. The Hilltoppers squeezed by Middle Tennessee State 44-43 in double overtime as they gave up over 600 yards and could not stop the pass while their passing led the way to 521 yards. WKU quarterback Mike White connected on 29-40 for 391 yards with a pair of touchdowns and a pick with favorite receiver Taywan Taylor hauling in 12 passes for 197 yards and a score. Anthony Wales gave Western Kentucky some quality production on the ground with 158 yards and three trips to the endzone on 27 touches.
The over is 8-0 in Monarchs last 8 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game and the Monarchs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and the over is 4-0 in Monarchs last 4 conference games. The Hilltoppers are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in October and the Hilltoppers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games on fieldturf while the Hilltoppers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
I don’t see an upset here but I think Old Dominion has enough defense and scoring to keep this within two TD’s…
