The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers look to avoid the upset bid of the visiting Maine Black Bears in a college football tilt.

The Maine Black Bears opened their season with a convincing 35-7 rout of rival New Hampshire. Maine owned total yardage 450-116 with a 22-0 second quarter burst setting the tone. Black Bears quarterback Chris Ferguson completed 21-31 for 199 yards and a pair of touchdowns while receiver Drew Belcher connected on a 55 yard scoring strike. Jaquan Blair led Maine with three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown while the twosome of Joe Fitzpatrick and Ramon Jefferson combined for 150 rushing yards on 29 carries.

The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers never found the end zone and their defense struggled in a 34-3 loss at Wisconsin in their opener. Western Kentucky was held to 305 yards while the Badgers totaled 491 yards with the ability to both run or throw as they pleased.

Hilltoppers quarterback Drew Eckels connected on 15-26 for 167 yards and had trouble stretching the field. Jacquez Sloan caught one throw for 48 yards while Xavier Lane logged four receptions for 40 yards for WKU while Eckels paced the rushing attack with 38 yards on nine touches.

Over is 4-0 in Maine last 4 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game and Maine are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 275 total yards in their previous game and over is 4-0 in Maine last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. Western Kentucky are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games in September and over is 4-0 in Western Kentucky last 4 home games and Western Kentucky  are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.

I have to believe Western Kentucky was better then we saw against Wisconsin which has me laying the chalk here…

Pick:
Western Kentucky -6.5

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
