The Air Force Falcons stayed perfect on the season, improving to 4-0 (1-0 MW), after defeating the Navy Midshipmen, 28-14, this past Saturday. Air Force did a great job on the defensive end not allowing Navy to score until the 4th quarter and put the game away with a Timothy McVey 62-yard TD reception with just over 6 minutes left to play. Air Force outgained Navy by a 430-317 margin and won the turnover battle by a 3-1 margin. Leading the way for the Falcons was WR Jalen Robinette who had a TD and 163 receiving yards on 5 receptions. On the season, Air Force is averaging 35.0 ppg on an average of 472.3 total yards per game (159.5 passing, 312.8 rushing). Offensively, Air Force is led by the 5th best rushing offensive in the country. Leading the Falcons rushing attack has been RB Jacobi Owens (9.5 att/g, 66.5 yds/g, 2 TD), RB D.J. Johnson (16.5 att/g, 64.0 yds/g), RB Shayne Davern (11.5 att/g, 42.8 yds/g, TD), QB Nate Romine (12.0 att/g, 38.8 yds/g), and RB Timothy McVey (3.5 att/g, 30.3 yds/g, 3 TD). Defensively, Air Force is holding their opponents to an average of 17.3 ppg on 315.0 total yards per game (262.0 passing, 53.0 rushing). Air Force currently has a +2 turnover margin on the season.
The Wyoming Cowboys improved to 3-2 (1-0 MW) on the season after an impressive 38-17 victory on the road against the Colorado State Rams. Wyoming was able to get a 24-17 lead at halftime and used a 14-point 3rd quarter to pull away from the Rams and secure the victory. Wyoming was outgained by Colorado State by a 481-434 margin however, won the turnover battle by a 2-0 margin. Leading the way for Wyoming was Brian Hill who had 166 rushing yards and a TD while becoming Wyoming’s all-time leading rusher. On the season, Wyoming is averaging 32.8 ppg on an average of 405.4 total yards per game (206.2 passing, 199.2 rushing). Offensively, Wyoming is led by RB Brain Hill who has 7 TD’s on the season while averaging 125.8 yds/g. QB Josh Allen has completed 58.5% of his passes for 7 TD and 6 INT while averaging 206.2 passing yds/g. Wyoming has forced their opponents into committing 10 turnovers on the season however, have also have had issues protecting the ball as the Cowboys have a turnover margin of 0.
The Falcons are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Cowboys are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games in October however, 0-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Air Force has been impressive early in the season as they’ve used their strong option rushing attack to get big victories over Navy and at Utah State. Wyoming has started to might great strides under Craig Bohl however, for the Cowboys to be able to secure a trip to a bowl game they’ll need to find some answers on the defensive end as they currently rank 85th in scoring defense. Air Force has the 5th ranked rushing attack in the country however, Wyoming’s rush defense has actually been their strong suit on the defensive side of the ball (ranked 50th in College Football). Wyoming was able to play Air Force tough on the road last year (31-17 L) and as Wyoming is one of the tougher places to play in College Football, I think the Cowboys behind Brian Hill, will do enough to cover with the points at home. Take Wyoming and the points.
