Australia -600 / Bangladesh +400
Australia will play against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
Australia had a solid victory in their previous game as they defeated Sri Lanka by 87 runs. That win means that Australia are on 8 points and very close to securing a spot in the semifinals.
The Australian top-order batting was very impressive during the victory against Sri Lanka as Aaron Finch led the team by scoring an impressive 153 off 132 balls. Steve Smith also contributed with 73 runs. The middle-order for Australia failed once again as Australia failed to finish their innings in the manner they would have liked. That being said, Glenn Maxwell played an explosive knock by scoring 46 runs in 25 balls. Overall, it was a good performance by the Australian batsman but they had a middle-order collapse which is a worrying trend since it happened in the match against Pakistan also.
The Australian bowling had a poor start as they conceded close to 100 runs in the batting powerplay. However, the bowlers pulled it back excellently for Australia with Mitchell Starc taking 4 wickets. Australia bowled out Sri Lanka for 247 runs which showed the skill the bowlers possess.
On the other side of the coin, Bangladesh have played 5 games in this tournament. As it currently stands, Bangladesh have 5 points having won 2 games. In their previous outing, Bangladesh played against the West Indies whom they defeat following a very impressive batting display. Bangladesh won the game by 7 wickets with 51 balls remaining.
The batting was outstanding by Bangladesh. Shakib continued his incredible form by scoring 124 runs in 99 balls. Liton Das also played an outstanding inning as he scored 94 runs in 69 balls. The entire team batted well as a unit as they took a large number of singles and hit boundaries off the bad balls
The Bangladeshi bowlers were taken to the cleaners in the game against the West Indies as they conceded a total of 321. That being said, the Bangladesh team showed great character in the field as they caught well and had the skill to prevent an even larger total. Mustafizur Rahman bowled very well as the bowler took 3 vital wickets near the death. Australia will also present a big challenge so the Bangladeshi bowlers will have to be at their best if they wish to contain the scoring.
Trent Bridge is known for its big totals. The pitch is flat and the ground is relatively small meaning that the batsman can easily clear the boundary.
Bangladesh have had a decent tournament but they have gotten some big wins over major teams. That being said, this will be a big challenge for Bangladesh and while they will believe they can compete, I see them losing. Australia are firing on all cylinders and their pace bowlers are bowling at a level which could be too much. Australia are looking confident following their recent wins and I see them beating Bangladesh in this match.
