Australia and New Zealand are set to play a 3-match Test series with the opening Test match taking place at Optus Stadium in Perth. This is set to be a day-night Test.

Australia had an extremely strong Test series against Pakistan which the team won 2-0. David Warner was outstanding throughout the series as the opener scored close to 500 runs in 2 innings. Mitchell Starc was the star bowler for Australia as the paceman took 14 wickets to lead the team to victory. This is expected to be a much tougher series for Australia since New Zealand are currently ranked as the number 2 team in the world.

On the other side of the coin, New Zealand enter this series having beaten England 1-0 at home. It was an outstanding series for the Kiwis as they dominated England and comprehensively won. Tom Latham, Ross Taylor, BJ Watling, and Kane Williamson all contributed with big runs and they will hope to continue their good form in this series. The bowling was also strong with the likes of Matt Henry, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner playing exceptionally well. New Zealand have an extremely strong side and they will enter this series with a realistic chance of winning.

The conditions at Optus Stadium are expected to aid the pace bowlers. The pitch is expected to be fast and bouncy and the pink ball should allow the ball to swing. Both Australia and New Zealand have strong pace bowling units.

I am going to make a bold prediction and pick New Zealand to win this match. Australia have played well but they have only faced weak opposition and I don’t see the team having enough to compete with New Zealand. The Kiwis are looking in supreme form and I see them winning the opening match of the series.
