Australia -275 / Pakistan +220
In the 2019 ICC World Cup, Australia will play against Pakistan at the County Ground in Taunton.
Australia were beaten in their last match as they lost to India at the Oval. It was a very poor overall performance by Australia as they never looked close to winning the match. The bowling was very poor as they conceded 352 runs. Mitchell Starc was very disappointing as the lead bowler was hit for 74 runs in his 10 overs. The leg spinner, Adam Zampa, was also very poor as he bowled erratically and allowed India to score with ease. Zampa was only bowled for 6 overs as he was going at an economy rate of 8.33. Outside of their bowling, the batting was also very weak from Australia. David Warner scored at a strike rate of only 66.67 which resulted in too much pressure being built at the other end. Smith(69) and Carey(55) batted well but the Australians didn’t have enough purpose throughout the innings which cost them the chance of winning. While the loss has dented Australia’s momentum, the team are still in a good position as they are 2-1 after 3 games. Winning this match will return Australia to a strong position on the standings.
Pakistan’s previous match was washed out as the team shared 1 point with Sri Lanka. The result would have disappointed the Pakistani team as they were expected to beat Sri Lanka with some comfort. That being said, Pakistan enter this match in good form as they defeated England in their last outing. Mohammad Hafeez was terrific for Pakistan during the win against England as the all-rounder scored 84 runs and took the wicket of Eoin Morgan. Babar Azam and Wahab Riaz also both look in great form and that makes Pakistan a very strong candidate for this tournament.
Pakistan and Australia played a 5-match ODI series in the UAE earlier in the year. Australia won that series comfortably. While the result was clearly in Australia’s favor, it should not make much difference since Pakistan were playing a very different squad for that series.
Australia have had cracks within their team and they were exposed in their game against the West Indies. Australia were lucky to escape with a win against the West Indies but India were too strong to allow this team to do the same thing. Australia have batting issues and lack bowling depth and both issues were clearly exposed by India in the previous match. Pakistan is not a perfect team either but they have more bases covered than Australia. The bookmakers have Pakistan as a huge underdog which I don’t see to be accurate. We are getting an outstanding price on Pakistan and I see that being the best play for this match.
