South Africa vs. Australia
|Date & Time||Saturday July 6, 2019, 8:30 AM (EDT)|
Australia -225 / South Africa +175
Australia will play against South Africa in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
South Africa have had a very poor tournament and have no chance of qualifying for the semifinals. As it currently stands, South Africa have 5 points from their 8 matches.
South Africa won their second game of the tournament in their last outing as they defeated Sri Lanka by 9 wickets.
The bowling was very good from South Africa as they restricted Sri Lanka to only 203 runs. Dwaine Pretorius and Chris Morris were both outstanding for South Africa as both bowlers took 3 wickets each. Pretorius was especially impressive as he only conceded 25 runs in his 10 overs.
The batting also fired for South Africa as Hashim Amla (80*) and Faf du Plessis (96*) contributed with big totals to chase down the target. South Africa chased down the target in 37.2 overs. The batting has been a big problem for South Africa throughout the tournament and they will be challenged in this match since Australia have an outstanding bowling unit.
Looking at Australia, the team continued its winning ways by defeating New Zealand in their last outing. Australia have secured a spot in the semifinals as they have 14 points from their 8 games.
The Australian batting was exposed in their previous game as New Zealand dismissed David Warner, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch early. Usman Khawaja (88) and Alex Carey (71) revived Australia to a total of 243.
243 ended up being plenty for Australia as Mitchell Starc destroyed the New Zealand batting line-up. Starc took 5 wickets for 26 to win the match for Australia. Australia ended up winning the game by 86 runs.
With the semifinals coming up, Australia will be desperate to maintain their winning momentum.
This match between Australia and South Africa is set to be played at Old Trafford in Manchester. This pitch is expected to assist the pace bowlers which should favor Australia.
Taking everything into consideration, I am picking Australia to win this match. Despite South Africa beating Sri Lanka, the Proteas have struggled all tournament and the team looks down. Australia are in outstanding touch and I see the likes of Starc and Cummins being too good for the South African batsmen. Australia have been a better side all tournament and I see them winning this match.
