Sri Lanka vs Australia
Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 11:00 PM (Gabba)
The Line: Australia -450/ Draw +850/ Sri Lanka +650, Over/Under:
Australia and Sri Lanka are set to play a 2 match test series. Neither Australia nor Sri Lanka have been good cricket so this will be a good chance for both teams to turn around their form. The first test between these two teams is set to be played at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Australia lost their last test series as they were beaten at home by India. It was a tough series for Australia as the batsman consistently failed to get enough runs. For this match, Australia have made drastic changes to their squad and many new additions such as Joe Burns have been added to the team. The new additions are untested and it is hard to see them getting big runs with no experience under their best. The bowlers were also poor for Australia in their last series although the bowling unit is very accomplished and it should be safe to assume the likes of Starc, Cummins and Lyon will be back to their best for this series.
As far as Sri Lanka are concerned, this is going to be a very tough challenge. The Sri Lankans were beaten at home by England and then beaten away from home by New Zealand. Sri Lanka failed to compete against neither team and arriving in Australia, the team looks very low on confidence. Sri Lanka’s bowling is looking very fragile since the retirements of Malinga and Herath and the batting has been struggling for a long time.
As far as the conditions are concerned, the Gabba usually produces a fast and bouncy pitch which should favour Australia. Australia have an exceptional record at the Gabba and they won their last match at this ground as the hosts beat England approximately 12 months ago. This match is also set to be a day-night test meaning the pink ball will be used. Australia is unbeaten in day-night test matches.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Australia to win this match. Australia have an exceptional record at the Gabba as the conditions suit the team. With Sri Lanka in very poor form, I see Australia getting a much-needed test win.
