Australia -700 / Sri Lanka +450
Australia will play against Sri Lanka in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. Sri Lanka and Australia will be playing this match at the Oval in London.
Australia returned to winning ways in their previous match as they defeated Pakistan. It was a close match where Australia took crucial wickets to secure the 2 points. Australia batted first and posted a total of 307. David Warner was the star performer as he scored 107 runs in 111 balls. Aaron Finch also batted well by scoring 82. While the total was solid, Australia were exposed by Pakistan as their middle-order was weak and the team lost 8 wickets for less than 90 runs. Fortunately for Australia, Pat Cummins bowled well as the paceman took vital wickets to disrupt the Pakistan chase. This Australia team has not looked like a good team but they are 3-1 which gives them a very good chance of qualifying.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have had their last 2 games abandoned by rain. This team has looked very poor throughout the tournament but the weather has aided them as they have 4 points on the board. If Sri Lanka can manage to find some form, they have a very good chance of making a big impact in this tournament. Looking at the balance of this side, the team lacks many key positions. Sri Lanka are lacking in a quality leg spinner while most of their batsmen look in poor form. That being said, the likes of Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Perrera, and Thisara Perrera all have the ability to win matches so Sri Lanka will be hoping that they can click in this contest. The bowling has been good for Sri Lanka as Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Pradeep have been taking wickets. The pair combined to take 7 wickets for Sri Lanka in the match against Afghanistan. Outside of player performances, Sri Lanka will be at a disadvantage since they have not played in over 10 days. The lack of match time could be costly, especially for the batsmen who need consistency for their craft.
The Oval has always been a good pitch for batting. There is usually even bounce and no lateral movement for the bowlers. Sri Lanka and Australia will both be hoping to post big totals.
Sri Lanka have not looked good throughout this tournament and I don’t see their long break helping the team. Australia have not been playing well either but the team has been winning which is a major factor. Australia have a better balance and their batsmen have been scoring more runs. With that in mind, I see Australia winning this match and getting another 2 points on the board.
