West Indies vs. Australia
|Date & Time||Thursday June 6, 2019, 5:30 AM (EDT)|
West Indies +175 / Australia -225
Australia will play against the West Indies at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Both Australia and the West Indies won their opening match so we should expect a good match between two teams in good form.
West Indies looked outstanding during their opening match as they defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets. The bowling was very impressive with Andre Russell and Oshane Thomas leading the team by taking 2 wickets and 4 wickets respectively. Both West Indian bowlers bowled with great pace and used the bouncer to trouble all of the Pakistani batsmen. Jason Holder was also good with the ball as the captain took 3 wickets. As far as the batting was concerned, it was not a tough task as the team only required 106 runs to win the match. Chris Gayle looked in supreme touch as the opening batsman scored 50 runs in only 34 balls. The West Indies chased down Pakistan’s total in only 13.4 overs which was also a very impressive accomplishment.
On the other side of the coin, Australia enter this match having beaten Afghanistan in their opening fixture. While the win was accomplished, Australia lacked discipline with the ball and at times they allowed the opposition to score with great freedom. The likes of Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa were expensive at times and that is something they must improve if they are to contain this West Indies batting unit. The Australian batting was clinical as they had no problems chasing down the total they were set. David Warner looked very impressive as he scored 89 runs and he was well supported by Aaron Finch who scored 66 runs. This Australian team is not popular with the fans and they received many “boos” when they played their previous game. With the likes of Warner and Smith in the team, such a negative reception is expected to continue throughout the tournament.
This match is being played at Trent Bridge which is a ground that is known for its big totals. Over 800 runs have been scored in an ODI at this venue so both Australia and the West Indies will be looking to post massive totals.
This should be a very close contest which could swing in either direction. Australia are the stable option as they usually perform well but the West Indies have the ability to beat any side. With that in mind, I am going to pick the West Indies to win this match. The West Indies were outstanding in their opening match in this team looks in supreme touch. When the West Indies are playing well, they are very tough to stop.
