England will play against Afghanistan in the 2019 ICC World Cup. The match between England and Afghanistan will be played at Old Trafford in Manchester.
England were dominant in their previous match as they defeated the West Indies by 8 wickets. The bowlers were impressive for England as they allowed the West Indies to only score 212 runs. Mark Wood and Jofra Archer were both very impressive for England as both pacemen took 3 wickets each to derail the West Indies innings. The batting didn’t require a huge performance but Joe Root continued his incredible form by scoring an unbeaten century. Chris Woakes (45) and Jonny Bairstow (40) both contributed with runs. England are 3-1 after 4 matches and the team is very well placed to qualify for the semifinals. The crowd is behind this England side and they are playing with lots of confidence.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, are 0-4 and their hopes of making an impact in this tournament are fading away. Afghanistan were beaten in their previous match as they suffered a 9 wicket defeat to South Africa. The batting has been the biggest issue for Afghanistan and that was evident in the previous match as the team only scored 125 runs. Afghanistan don’t seem to have enough batting to allow the likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi to compete with the ball. Considering their form heading into this fixture, Afghanistan may find it very tough to compete with England.
Afghanistan will be at full strength and the team will be desperate to score enough runs to allow their spinners a chance of causing an upset. As for England, the team is likely to be without Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy. Morgan has a back spasm while Roy is struggling with a hamstring injury.
Old Trafford has not hosted many games in the World Cup. This should mean that the pitch for this match will have some grass and could favor the seam bowlers. With Archer and Wood in the team, England should enjoy the conditions at Old Trafford.
Afghanistan have the potential to cause a big upset but things haven’t gone their way in this tournament. England, even without Morgan and Roy, have a huge amount of batting depth and I see them scoring a total which will be too much for Afghanistan. With quality throughout their lineup, I see England winning this match with some ease.
