England and Bangladesh are set to meet at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Both England and Bangladesh are 1-1 after two matches.
England were stunned in their previous game as they lost to Pakistan in a high scoring game at Trent Bridge. It was a very poor fielding display by England as they conceded way too many runs. Jason Roy dropped a very costly catch while the likes of Joe Root and Eoin Morgan conceded runs with poor ground fielding. The bowling was consistent although it was a very tough surface for the likes of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood as they got no assistance. That being said, England batted well. Joe Root and Jos Buttler both scored centuries which allowed the team to get to a total which was close to Pakistan’s. The loss was not ideal for England but this team has been very good over the past few years and I don’t see them getting hugely impacted by a single defeat.

On the other side of the coin, Bangladesh lost to New Zealand in their previous match. It was a poor outing for the Tigers as they looked very good in their win over South Africa and would have expected to score more runs. Shakib Al-Hasan scored a half-century but low scores from the likes of Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim resulted in the team posting a total of only 244. While the total was never going to be enough, the Bangladeshi bowlers should be commended as they almost stole the win for their team. Mosaddek Hossain was very impressive as he finished with figures of 2 for 33. Mehidy Hasan, Mohammad Saifuddin and Shakib Al-Hasan were also good as the trio took 6 wickets between them. Bangladesh took 8 wickets but it wasn’t enough to win the match. Bangladesh have played very well in both games and they will be confident in their ability to compete with England in this match.

The Sophia Gardens has been a very low scoring venue. No team has scored over 200 runs at this venue in the 2 games that have been played at this venue.

Bangladesh have impressed many throughout this tournament but I see them suffering their second successive defeat in this match. England are the top team in the world and they have the advantage of playing at home. Most of the England players look in good form and I see the host nation having too much batting strength for Bangladesh. I see England leaving this match with the 2 points.
