England -350 / New Zealand +275
We have reached the final of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup where New Zealand and England will be playing for the title.
New Zealand shocked the world by beating India in the semifinal.
It was a cautious start with the bat for New Zealand as the Kiwis struggled to score at a fast rate. The likes of Guptill and Nicholls struggled to gain any momentum but Williamson and Taylor showed their class. New Zealand scored 239 runs which proved to be enough for the win.
The main match-winners for New Zealand were Trent Boult and Matt Henry. The Kiwis were outstanding in the first 10 overs as they dismissed Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul for a total of 3 runs. Mitchel Santner was outstanding in the middle overs as he took the vital wickets of Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya. India didn’t play their best cricket but New Zealand showed enough determination to capitalize on that opportunity.
On the other side of the coin, England won their previous match by 8 wickets as they defeated Australia in the second semifinal.
The bowling was outstanding by the England new-ball bowlers as Jorfa Archer and Chris Woakes took 3 vital wickets in the first powerplay. Adil Rashid controlled the middle overs by dismissing Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis and Pat Cummins. England dismissed Australia for 223 in 49 overs.
The batting was also very good from England as they scored the runs with ease. Jason Roy was outstanding as he scored a rapid half-century to give the team a huge step towards the target. 224 was always going to be an easy target but England played with great aggression and it shows that the team is very confident.
Playing in their home country, England are getting great support from the fans. Considering the support from the crowd and the team’s current form, England will be tough to beat.
New Zealand and England met in the group stages of this tournament. England won that match comfortably by 119 runs. The batting was the biggest problem for New Zealand in the previous match against England. Jonny Bairstow was the star performer for England in that match as he scored a brilliant inning of 106.
This match between England and New Zealand is set to take place at Lord’s in London. The pitch at Lord’s should be decent for batting. Batting first will be a major advantage in this match since it is a final and the pitch at Lord’s tends to deteriorate.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick England to win this match. New Zealand have not been playing at the same level as the top 3 teams and it seems like their win over India was their final. England have been a strong team all tournament and they have the head-to-head momentum. With the crowd on their side, I see England winning this match and winning the ICC World Cup for the first time.
