Pakistan vs. England
|Date & Time||Monday June 3, 2019, 5:30 AM (EDT)|
England -400 / Pakistan +300
England and Pakistan will meet at Trent Bridge as both teams play their second game in the 2019 ICC World Cup.
Pakistan were humiliated in their opening match as they suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of the West Indies. It was a disgraceful batting performance as the team was bowled out for only 105 runs. Pakistan were hugely troubled by the short ball as most of their top order batsmen were bounced out. The top batsmen for Pakistan were Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman but neither scored over 30. As far as the Pakistani bowling was concerned, it was a decent effort. Mohammad Amir took 3 wickets and there seemed to be pace and venom during his spell. Unfortunately for the bowlers, 105 was not enough runs to defend.
On the other side of the coin, England started their tournament in a supreme manner as they defeated South Africa. England batted first and posted a solid total of 311 from their 50 overs. Ben Stokes was the top performer for England as he scored 89 runs off only 79 balls. Eoin Morgan and Jason Roy were also in good form as both players scored half-centuries. The England bowling was led for Jofra Archer. There were questions related to Archer prior to the start of this tournament but the England paceman was incredible. Archer took 3 wickets while conceding only 27 runs. In addition to that, Jofra Archer caused Hashim Amla to retire by hitting the South African batsman with a nasty bouncer. Plunkett and Stokes also contributed with wickets. England look to have all their bases covered and will be very tough to beat in this tournament.
England and Pakistan played in a full series prior to this tournament. England won the series 4-0 which should give the home nation huge confidence as they head into this fixture.
The pitch at Trent Bridge should be very good for batting. The boundaries are short at Trent Bridge so both teams will expect to score big runs in this match.
Looking at his fixture, I am going to pick England to win. Pakistan have lost their last 12 matches and the team look extremely low on confidence. The batting was terrible for Pakistan and it seems very unlikely that they will be able to turn things around in such a short time. England, on the other hand, are flying high and the team looks full of confidence. With such contrasting form, I see England leaving Trent Bridge with another 2 points.
