England will play against South Africa in the opening match of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

England have had a tremendous preparation for this tournament as the hosts defeated Pakistan 4-0 last month. In the warm-up games, England defeated Afghanistan but lost to Australia. While the defeat to Australia would have hurt the team’s pride, England look very strong heading into this match as they are the top-ranked side in the world. Jos Buttler has been in exceptional form for England and the keeper was very good in the match against Australia where he scored 52 runs off only 31 balls. As far as the bowling is concerned, Liam Plunkett is looking in good form as the paceman took 4 wickets against Australia. Jofra Archer has also been bowling well as he took 2 wickets in the game against Afghanistan. England are playing at home and playing well which will make them very tough to beat.

On the other side of the coin, South Africa enter this match having had limited preparation. Many of the South African players played in the IPL meaning that the team only had the 2 warm-up games prior to this match. South Africa were very strong in the opening warm-up match as they won with ease. Faf du Plessis scored 88 runs in the opening warm-up game. Hashim Amla also looks to be back to his best as the opener scored runs in both games. The South African bowling will be led by Dale Steyn and Kagiso Rabada. Both bowlers had issues with injuries prior to this tournament but the South African camp seem confident that Rabada and Steyn will be playing this match.

The conditions at the Oval should be good for batting.

South Africa have a very strong team and they have the ability to go far in this tournament. That being said, I see England winning this match. England look well prepared and they are expected to get big support from their home fans. England have an outstanding team and the home advantage should be enough to get them the points.
