India -225 / New Zealand +175
Trent Bridge will host India and New Zealand for a top of the table clash in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
New Zealand are 3-0 in this tournament after defeating Afghanistan in their previous outing. It is fair to say that New Zealand have had an easy start to the tournament as they have played against Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka. That being said, New Zealand have been clinical in all their wins and are looking like a very solid team. The bowling has been outstanding by New Zealand as Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult have led the unit very well. In their last match, Lockie Ferguson took 4 wickets and Jimmy Neesham played an outstanding hand to take 5 wickets. In their 3 matches, New Zealand have taken all 30 wickets and have conceded less than 600 runs. These are outstanding statistics but with India being their next opponents, things are likely to change. It is important to note that New Zealand have not been the strongest with the bat as they struggled against Bangladesh and had early troubles against Afghanistan. New Zealand must bat better if they are to compete against India.
India have also been very good throughout this tournament. India are also unbeaten and have beaten Australia and South Africa. India’s wins are much more noticeable as they have been beating top teams. India were outstanding in their last match as they defeated Australia by 36 runs. Shikhar Dhawan was outstanding as the opening batsman scored 117 runs in only 109 balls. In addition to that, Virat Kohli(82), Rohit Sharma(57) and Hardik Pandya(48) all contributed well with the bat. Pandya’s innings was especially impressive as he scored his 48 runs in only 27 balls. The bowling was disciplined by India as the likes of Bumrah, Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav contained Australia’s scoring rate. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah both took 3 wickets which Yuzvendra Chahal took 2 wickets. India are firing on all cylinders and are looking extremely confident as they head into this match.
The pitch at Trent Bridge should be extremely high scoring. Trent Bridge has hosted ODI games where over 800 runs have been scored.
Both New Zealand and India are in outstanding form and will be very confident in their ability to win this match. That being said, I am going to pick India to win this contest. India have won against big teams while New Zealand have only beaten the weaker sides in the competition. New Zealand doesn’t have the depth in batting and spin bowling when compared to India and that could be decisive on a flat wicket like Trent Bridge. Having already beaten Australia and South Africa, I see India winning their third match of the tournament.
