The Kolkata Knight Riders will play their 2nd IPL match at home as they host the Kings XI Punjab at the Eden Gardens. Both KKR and KXIP won their opening matches so the teams will be attempting to go 2-0.
KXIP beat the Rajasthan Royals away from home in their opening match. The batting was hugely led by Chris Gayle who scored an impressive 79 runs of 47 balls. The West Indian superstar led the Kings XI Punjab to a challenging total of 184 which proved to be enough. The KXIP bowling also had a good day as they managed to take 9 Rajasthan wickets. Sam Curran had a good day with the ball as the England all-rounder took 2 vital wickets near the end of the match to ensure KXIP won.
On the other side of the coin, KKR were also very impressive as they beat the Sunriser Hyderabad in their last outing. The match was played on a very flat pitch but Andre Russell bowled well at the death to limit the oppositions scoring to 181. Andre Russell was also the star performer with the bat as the West Indian all-rounder scored a stunning 49 runs off 19 balls. Nitish Rana top scored for the Kolkata Knight Riders with a tally of 68 runs.
The pitch at the Eden Gardens way very flat in the opening game and it is expected to be similar for this match. Both KXIP and KKR will hope to post big totals with the conditions that are expected.
This is expected to be a close match as KKR and KXIP both look in very good form. As far as picking a winner is concerned, I am going to side with the Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR look very well suited to the conditions at their home ground and with the likes of Rana and Russell in form, they should be too strong for KXIP.
