The Mumbai Indians will begin their 2019 IPL campaign at home as they host the Delhi Capitals.
The Delhi Capitals have had a massive rebranding and will look to put their record behind them. DC have been very poor over the history of the IPL but they have changed their name from the Daredevils to the Capitals with the hope of a new start. The bigger changes at Delhi have been made in relation to the team management and squad. Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly have both been added to the team management and the pair should give the team lots of insight as they are both considered to be all-time greats. Shikhar Dhawan has been brought into the side and the opener should add experience to a very talented batting unit. The biggest asset for the Delhi Capitals is the fact that the team is hugely built around Indian talent so they can add overseas quality where they need to strengthen.
In comparison, Mumbai Indians will look to return to the top of the IPL this season. MI have a strong record in the IPL but they failed to make the finals last season which was a huge disappointment for the franchise. Unfortunately, the Mumbai Indians have not developed the team as they should have. MI have been spending big on players such as Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya. None of the expensive all-rounders look in good form and since they have taken up such a high percentage of the salary, they are almost forced to play. Bumrah and Rohit Sharma will hold the key for MI as both players have been in good form and will have to perform.
The pitch at the Wankhede Stadium should produce a high scoring game.
All in all, I am going to pick the Delhi Capitals to win this game. DC have looked to have build a better team and while they lack the superstars of Mumbai, they have a better group of players. Mumbai are lacking specialist players and I see that costing them a win in this match.
