Afghanistan will play against New Zealand at County Ground in Taunton.
Afghanistan have lost both of their games. In their previous outing, Afghanistan were beaten by Sri Lanka. It was a very disappointing result for the Afghanistan team as they looked in a very dominant position to win the match. Mohammad Nabi was terrific with the ball for Afghanistan as the finger spinner took 4 wickets while conceding only 30 runs. Rashid Khan was also very good as he took 2 wickets for 17 runs. Afghanistan restricted Sri Lanka to a total of less than 200 which was a very good accomplishment. That being said, the batting failed for Afghanistan. The Afghan batters only managed to bat for 32.4 overs and scored only 152 runs. Things are going to get tougher for Afghanistan in this fixture since New Zealand are a much stronger side.
On the other side of the coin, New Zealand are in terrific form as they are 2-0 in this tournament. In their previous outing, New Zealand played against Bangladesh in a match which they won. The bowling was outstanding for New Zealand as they took wickets consistently to restrict their opponents to a total of only 244. Matt Henry was the top performer for New Zealand as he took 4 wickets for only 47 runs. Henry dismissed big players as the paceman dismissed the likes of Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun. Trent Boult also contributed with 2 wickets. As far as the batting was concerned, Ross Taylor was the best player for New Zealand. Taylor scored 82 runs and was the anchor which allowed New Zealand to chase the total down. It is important to note that the likes of Kane Williamson and Tom Latham have not been scoring runs lately which potentially problematic for New Zealand if Ross Taylor is to have a bad day.
This is the first 2019 ICC World Cup at the Country Ground in Taunton. This is a relatively small venue so the short boundaries should enough a high scoring match.
I see this match ending in a simple win for New Zealand. Afghanistan simply don’t have enough batting depth to compete against the top teams and that was clear in their match against Afghanistan. New Zealand look in supreme form and I see them winning this match with some ease.
