New Zealand and Bangladesh are set to play the 2nd ODI of their series at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. Bangladesh must win this match if they wish to keep the series alive.
It was a disappointing batting display by Bangladesh in the opening match as the batsmen failed to get going which resulted in the team getting a subpar total. Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were both very disappointing as both batsmen failed to show their quality. That being said, Mohammad Mithun batted well to ensure that the Bangladesh team got a competitive total. As far as the Bangladeshi bowling was concerned, none of the bowlers had much impact as they allowed New Zealand to score over 230 runs while taking only 2 wickets.
On the other side of the coin, New Zealand had a very complete game. Trent Boult and Matt Henry started the game well for New Zealand as both bowlers took wickets with the new ball. Mitch Santner also bowler well as the off-spinner took 3 important wickets in the middle overs. As far as the batting was concerned, the team was led exceptionally well by Martin Guptill who had a return to form by scoring an unbeaten 117 of only 116 balls. In addition to Guptill, Henry Nicholls and Ross Taylor both contributed also with the bat. The New Zealand team look confident as they head into this match which will make them very tough to beat at home.
The conditions at Hagley Oval should be good for batting meaning that both New Zealand and Bangladesh will hope to score heavily.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick New Zealand to win this match. New Zealand are the stronger side and with the conditions suited for them, they should be too strong for Bangladesh.
