New Zealand vs India - 01/23/19 One Day International Cricket - 1st ODI Pick, Preview, Odds, and Prediction

India

New Zealand are set to host India for a 5 match One Day International Series. The first match is set to be played at Napier.

India enter this match in good form as the team recently beat Australia away from home. It was a dominant display by India as the bowlers performed extremely well. In the three games against Australia, India didn’t let their opponent go past 300 on any occasion. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the bowling unit well as the paceman took 8 wickets in the series. As far as the batting was concerned, India performed reasonably well as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni all scored runs. India’s ODI team have won 3 successive ODI events and should be feeling very confident as they enter this match.

On the other side of the coin, New Zealand also won their last series as they beat Sri Lanka at home. It was a dominant display by New Zealand as they won the ODI series by a scoreline of 3-0. Both batting and bowling fired for New Zealand. Ross Taylor was exceptional against Sri Lanka as the batsman scored 281 runs with an average of over 90. Henry Nicholls also batted very well for New Zealand as he scored 171 runs in the 3 games. The bowling was led by Sodhi who took 8 wickets with an average of only 18.5. This is expected to be a much tougher series for New Zealand as they are playing against one of the best limited-overs teams in the world.

With the World Cup only months away, both New Zealand and India will be desperate to ensure they are winning games consistently. As far as the first ODI is concerned, I am going to pick India to win. India enter this match in elite form having recently beaten Australia. India have a much more experienced and accomplished side I see them taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
