|Date & Time||Wednesday June 26, 2019, 5:30 AM (EDT)|
New Zealand -175 / Pakistan +137
Pakistan will play against New Zealand in the 2019 ICC World Cup. The match between these two teams will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Pakistan were outstanding in their previous match as they defeated South Africa by 49 runs. Pakistan currently have 5 points and must win this match to remain in the semifinal fight.
During the win against South Africa, Pakistan batted extremely well. Haris Sohail was outstanding as he scored 89 off 59 balls to lift Pakistan to a score of 308. Babar Azam also continued his good form by scoring a half-century. Following a few disappointing losses, Pakistan needed to win to calm the fans and the result against South Africa was the perfect performance by the team.
The bowling was also exceptional as Pakistan only allowed South Africa to score 259 while taking 9 wickets. Mohammad Amir was outstanding as the seam bowler took the wickets of Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis. Wahab Riaz and Shadab Khan took 3 wickets each.
It was a well-balanced and impressive performance by Pakistan and they should have some confidence as they head into this match.
Looking at New Zealand, the Kiwis closely defeated the West Indies in their previous match. Kane Williamson was exceptional for New Zealand as he scored another century but the rest of the batting was poor as the team only managed 291 runs. The bowling bailed New Zealand out of trouble as Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson combined to take 7 wickets. New Zealand have not looked dominant in this tournament but the team remains unbeaten and have secured a spot in the semifinals.
Edgbaston is usually a very good pitch for batting. New Zealand played against South Africa on this ground where the pitch offered assistance to the pace bowlers. With the likes of Mohammad Amir, Trent Boult, Wahab Riaz and Lockie Ferguson playing in this match, we should expect some quality bowling.
Pakistan are a team that play well when they are confident. This Pakistan team looked confident as they finished the game against South Africa and I see them having some momentum as they into this clash. New Zealand have been winning but the batting has been poor outside of Williamson. This game means much more to Pakistan than to New Zealand since the Kiwis have already secured a semifinal spot. With that in mind, I see a determined Pakistan team winning this match.
