The Line: -- Over/Under:
South Africa will face Bangladesh in the 2019 ICC World Cup in England.
This is the first game of the tournament for Bangladesh. The team played in a tri-series tournament in Ireland prior to arriving in England where the Bangladeshi players played extremely well. The team was undefeated throughout the tournament and it allowed Bangladesh to win their first tournament. Leading up to this match, Bangladesh played a warm-up match against India where they were beaten comfortably. The bowling started well but the likes of Shakib Al-Hasan had very poor games which costed Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi batting was also very poor in the game against India. Looking at this match, it will be important for the bowling to perform as it is unlikely that Bangladesh can score big runs against the likes of Ngidi and Rabada.
South Africa, on the other hand, started their World Cup campaign on Thursday as they lost to England by around 100 runs. It was a disappointing start for South Africa as they failed as a batting unit. Quinton de Kock played well but the keeper lost his wicket at a vital moment to let the game slip away. As far as the bowling was concerned, it was a good performance by South Africa as the likes of Imran Tahir and Lungi Ngidi impressed with big wickets.
This match is set to be played at the Oval in London. This is the same venue as the opening match of the tournament for South Africa. The pitch at the Oval is very good for batting as it has even bounce and very little grass.
It will be important for the big players on both teams perform. Looking at the Bangladesh side, Shakib Al-Hasan is the main player for this side. Shakib failed during the match against India but he is still the number 1 ranked all-rounder in the world. If Shakib performs, it provides Bangladesh great aggression while they are batting and with great control while bowling. As for South Africa, I see Quinton de Kock as their most important player. South Africa's problems have been with their batting and Quinton de Kock has the ability to win a match on his own. If Quinton de Kock can score big runs for South Africa, the team will be confident they can win since their bowling unit is very strong.
South Africa must win this match or it will be very tough for them to compete for a spot in the top 4 at the end of the group stage. With that in mind, I think South Africa will win this match. Bangladesh lack quality in their bowling and I see them allowing South Africa to score a huge total. With the likes of Ngidi, Tahir and Rabada, I don’t see Bangladesh getting close to the total that South Africa will score.
