South Africa and Pakistan will play the 4th ODI of their series at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. As it currently stands, South Africa lead the 5-match series by a score line of 2-1. Pakistan must win this match if they wish to remain in the series.
South Africa won the last match thanks to the DLS after much of the game was disrupted due to rain. It was a game where both teams played extremely well with both South Africa and Pakistan batting extremely well. For Pakistan, Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam both played very well as they combined to contribute 170 runs. Pakistan batted well to score 317 runs. Unfortunately for Pakistan, the bowling was woeful as they only managed to take 2 wickets in the 33 overs they bowled. Shadab Khan and Shaheen Shah Afridi were both very poor as they conceded more than 6 runs per over during the innings.
As far as South Africa was concerned, Reeza Hendricks was exceptional as he scored 83 runs in only 90 balls. Hendricks stabilized South Africa’s innings and ensured the team scored at a good rate so that they could win with some ease. Looking at the South African bowlers, Dale Steyn was exceptional as he took 2 wickets at an economy rate of 4.30.
The Wanderers’ pitch produced a low scoring game 12 months ago when India played an ODI at this venue against South Africa. This season, the pitch is expected to be similar so the bowlers should enjoy the venue.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick South Africa to win this match. South Africa are playing exceptionally well and they should be very confident as they have now won 2 successive games. With form on their side, I see South Africa winning this match and the series.
