South Africa and Pakistan are set to play the 5th and final ODI of their series at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. South Africa and Pakistan have both won 2 matches meaning the winner of this game will win the series.
Pakistan won the previous game thanks to a very impressive display by their bowlers. Usman Khan Shinwari was exceptional for Pakistan as he took 4 wickets while conceding 35 runs. Shinwari took 3 wickets in an over which was vital for Pakistan as it caused the South African total to be a long way under par. As far as the South African batting was concerned, it was a very disappointing performance as no batsman made it past 60 while 7 batsmen scored less than 10 runs. South Africa only made 164 runs which was very disappointing.
On the other side of the coin, Pakistan batted very well. Imam-ul-Haq scored an impressive 71 while Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman both contributed to the overall score. Pakistan chased down South Africa’s total with 32 overs which symbolized a very easy win for the visitors. It is important to note that the South African bowlers were also very poor as they only managed to take 2 wickets in the entire Pakistan innings.
The pitch at the Newlands Cricket Ground is known to assist the spin bowlers. Pakistan have a very impressive spin bowling unit led by Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim. As a result, the conditions should favour Pakistan more than South Africa.
Taking everything into consideration, I am going to pick Pakistan to win this match. Pakistan had a big win in their last outing and South Africa look like they have no answers against the Pakistani spinners. With the conditions at Newlands expecting to favour spin, I see Pakistan winning this match.
