Pakistan vs. South Africa
|Date & Time||Sunday June 23, 2019, 5:30 AM (EDT)|
South Africa -138 / Pakistan +110
South Africa will play against Pakistan in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.
South Africa suffered a close defeat as they were beaten by New Zealand in their last match. It was a close match where the Proteas lost by 4 wickets. As it currently stands, South Africa have 3 points from 6 games and that makes it very tough for the team to qualify for the semifinals.
In the previous game, South Africa battled well to post a competitive total of 241 on a tough wicket. Hashim Amla (55) and Rassie van der Dussen (67) both batted very well as they showed discipline and skill.
The bowling was very impressive from South Africa as Chris Morris led the team very well. Morris took 3 wickets which included the dismissal of Ross Taylor. Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi also bowled very well as they had New Zealand in a tough position. Unfortunately for South Africa, the fielding was poor as they dropped too many chances and that ended up costing them the victory.
On the other side of the coin, Pakistan were comfortably beaten as they lost by 89 runs to India. The loss means that Pakistan must win all their remaining games if they wish to compete for a spot in the top 4. Pakistan have 3 points from their 5 games.
It was a poor bowling effort by the majority of the Pakistani bowlers as they allowed the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to run away with the match. The only impressive bowler for Pakistan in this tournament has been Mohammad Amir as he has taken 12 wickets in the 4 games. Amir was impressive against India also as he took 3 wickets.
The batting was poor from Pakistan as the likes of Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. It was always going to be tough for Pakistan to defeat India but the manner of the defeat has caused the team to be heavily criticized.
This match between Pakistan and South Africa is set to be played at Lord’s in London. Lord’s has not seen much cricket this season so the pitch could have some grass which will assist the pace bowlers.
Neither South Africa nor Pakistan have been playing well so it is hard to predict a winner. That being said, I am going to pick Pakistan to win this match. South Africa will be low on confidence and have no chance of making the semifinals. Pakistan are still in contention for a semifinal spot so I see the team having enough determination to defeat South Africa.
