In the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, Sri Lanka will play against the West Indies.
Sri Lanka were beaten by South Africa in their previous match. That loss means that Sri Lanka have 6 points and it is unlikely they will be able to qualify for the semifinals.
Sri Lanka batted very poorly during their previous match as they only managed to score 203 runs. Avishka Fernando top scored with 30 runs which shows that no batsman managed to create an innings. Sri Lanka failed to bat for the 50 overs, which was very disappointing from the team.
The bowling was also disappointing from Sri Lanka as they only managed to take 1 wicket in the entire match. Malinga dismissed Quinton de Kock but no other wickets were taken which allowed South Africa to win by 9 wickets. Important bowlers like Lakmal and Perera looked toothless and didn’t cause the South African batsmen any challenges.
Sri Lanka had a good game against England but the team has been poor in all their other matches.
West Indies also lost their previous match as they lost to India by over 100 runs. The West Indies have only 3 points from their 7 games and have been eliminated from the tournament.
The West Indies bowled well against India as they limited the Indian batsmen to only 268 in their 50 overs. Kemar Roach bowled extremely well as he took 3 wickets at an economy rate of 3.6. Sheldon Cottrell and Jason Holder both contributed with 2 wickets each.
The batting was poor by the West Indies. The likes of Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Shai Hope lacked application and that meant that the West Indies had no chance of chasing down the total. The West Indies were bowled out by 143 runs which was a very poor display.
This match is set to be played at the Riverside Ground in Durham. The pitch usually favors pace bowlers which should aid the West Indies.
Neither West Indies nor Sri Lanka are likely to make it into the semifinals. As far as predicting a winner is concerned, I am going to pick the West Indies to win this match. The conditions should aid the West Indies as they have quality seam bowlers who are bowling well. The West Indies have played good cricket in this tournament and while the results have not shown it, they should be strong enough to defeat Sri Lanka.
