West Indies will host England in the first ODI of their 5-match One Day Series. The first game is set to be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
West Indies enter this series in good form after the team had a very strong win in the Test series. This series marks the return of Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis which should be a massive boost for the hosts. Both Gayle and Lewis have multiple ODI centuries and their explosive partnership at the top of the order should give the West Indies a great start with the bat. As far as the bowling is concerned, Oshane Thomas is expected to play which should be a huge positive for the West Indies as he was very impressive in India with his extreme pace. Jason Holder is also expected to return after the captain served his suspension in the final test in St Lucia.
England, on the other hand, will be happy to return to the ODI format as they enter this series as the top-ranked One Day team in the world. England have a very well balanced team with the likes of Jos Buttler, Joe Root and Eoin Morgan amongst the best white-ball players in the world. Adil Rashid is expected to return to the team for England and that should be a big boost for the visitors as the leg spinner has been terrific over the past few years.
The Kensington Oval should be a good pitch for the fast bowlers as we saw in the Test match played at this venue. Both teams should enjoy the conditions at the Kensington Oval.
This should be a very close match but I am going to pick the West Indies to win. The West Indies have looked the stronger team during the Test series and they look to be playing with great freedom as they enter this contest. With the conditions tailored for the host nation, I see the West Indies opening the series with a win.
