West Indies and England are set to play the second T20I of their 3-match series on Friday at Warner Park in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis. England currently lead the series 1-0.
England won the opening match hugely thanks to Tom Curran’s bowling. Curran bowled with great speed and used his variations well to take 4 wickets including the scalps of Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran. Chris Jordan was also impressive as he had an economy rate of only 5.33 while taking 2 wickets including that of Chris Gayle. The batting for England was hugely led by Jonny Bairstow as the opener scored 68 runs to lead the team to victory.
On the other side of the coin, the West Indies had a poor outing with the bat as their top 3 wickets for only 37 runs. Nicholas Pooran recovered the West Indies batting effort by scoring 58 runs off 37 balls to salvage a total of 160. It was never a large enough total for the West Indies and the batting will have to improve if they wish to level the series. As far as the bowling was concerned, Sheldon Cottrell was impressive as he took 3 wickets but the score simply wasn’t enough for the bowlers to defend. The West Indies are the current T20 World Cup holders so they will be confident in their ability to bounce back.
The pitch at Warner Park has produced low scoring games in recent years but considering the batting power in both the England and West Indies teams, I am still expecting a lot of runs to be scored.
All in all, I am going to pick the West Indies to bounce back and level the series. The West Indies have a stronger T20 outfit when compared to England I see the host team winning in front of their fans.
