Hope everyone is enjoying the start to their weekends!
Let’s take a look at our initial lineup for today’s MLB FanDuel “Early Only” lineup which features 4 games and starts at 4:05pm.
On the mound this afternoon, we’re going to be going with Miami’s LHP Caleb Smith in his home match-up against the Kansas City Royals. Smith has struggled since the All-Star break, however, still has had a very good season for the Marlins as he comes into this game posting a 4.30 ERA & 1.14 WHIP while holding his opponents to a .210 average/.732 OPS. I like Smith today as he has some solid value at just $7,400 while coming into this game with a 10.43 K/9 ratio. Smith has never faced anyone on the Royals roster which I find as an advantage for the pitcher and as Kansas City ranked 29th in MLB in team average vs. LHP (.239 average), I think Smith easily hits value and has upside to be one of the best pitchers on the slate.
On the offensive end, we’re going to be focusing on the NYY/BOS game as we’re going with a 4-man stack of NYY & 3-man stack of BOS.
The Red Sox had a surprising outstanding bullpen game yesterday, holding the high-powered Yankees offense to just one run on three hits, however, I don’t see the Red Sox being able to repeat that success today. Boston will be starting the RHP Travis Lakins who in his 15.1 IP at the MLB level, has posted a 4.70 ERA & 1.63 WHIP. Larkins is allowing his opponents to post a .288 average on the season and has struggled agianst both LHB’s & RHB’s as both sides of the plate are hitting .280+ against him. Larkins posted just a 4.60 ERA & 1.533 WHIP in his 40 appearances in triple-AAA this season and as I don’t trust the Red Sox bullpen to have the same level of success today, I think the Yankees have a solid day.
For the Yankees, we’re going with Edwin Encarnacion, Gleyber Torres, Didi Gregorius, & Mike Tauchman.
Boston will be going up agianst the LHP J.A. Happ who although has had some solid success agianst the Red Sox in his career, has really struggled this season, as he comes into this game with a 5.34 ERA & 1.34 WHIP. Happ has allowed his opponents to post a .807 OPS and has struggled w/ HR’s all season, posting a 2.06 HR/9 ratio.
For the Red Sox, we’re going w/ Christian Vazquez who has great career numbers agianst Happ (6 for 19 w/ 2 HR’s) with both J.D. Martinez & Andrew Benintendi.
Rounding out the team, I’m paying up for Eugenio Suarez in his match-up against the LHP Alex Young of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Young has been solid in his rookie season, however, he has allowed 5 HR’s over his last 5 starts and has posted just a 5.63 ERA over the past month. Suarez has been on fire as of late, posting a .435 average w/ 4 HR’s over the past week and has an incredible 42 HR’s on the season.
