We have a 10-game FanDuel MLB “Main” slate this afternoon that starts at 1:05pm and let’s check out our initial lineup.
We have a few high-priced options on the mound this afternoon, however, outside of Noah Syndergaard, I’m not huge fan of the match-ups/value that is on this slate and looking at some of the better offensive match-ups today, I think it’s better to go with value on the mound.
I’m going with extremely value, as I’m actually taking a chance on Sandy Alcantara of the Miami Marlins in his match-up at home against Syndergaard and the Mets. Alcantara hasn’t had the greatest season as he has posted a 5.11 ERA & 1.64 WHIP, however, this match-up does have some nice upside as the Mets are nothing more than average vs. RHP (.244 avg/.721 OPS) and rank 25th in team strikeout rate at 9.66 K/game. Alcantara doesn’t have huge K-upside, but I think he can get us 5-8 K’s today and as he will be in a very friendly pitching park, I think he can us 30-40 points today.
We’ve loaded up on the offensive end this afternoon and it starts with a 3-man stack of Cleveland Indians in their matchup against the RHP Yefry Ramirez of the Orioles. The wind will be blowing out hard (15 mph – 20 mph) and Ramirez hasn’t been anything special in his limited action this season, posting a 5.14 ERA & 1.43 WHIP. Ramirez posted a 1.52 HR/9 ratio last season and also struggled against LHB’s, allowing them to post a .287 average & .926 OPS.
For the Indians, we’re going to be going with Jason Kipnis, Jose Ramirez, and Francisco Lindor.
Kipnis is hitting just .221 on the season with 2 HR’s & 11 RBI’s, however, has been swinging a better bat as of late as he is hitting .333 (6-18) over his last 4 games and has posted a solid .803 OPS at home this season.
Ramirez has really struggled this season, but it’s only a matter of time until Ramirez starts putting up the offensive numbers we all know he is capable of putting up. Ramirez has posted a .298 average/.924 OPS vs. RHP’s over his last 3 seasons and as he is still a major threat on the bath paths as he has 12 SB’s on the season, I like the value that Ramirez brings to today’s slate.
Lindor is hitting .348 over the past week and has been solid agianst RHP’s this season, posting a .304 average/.807 OPS.
I’m going with a 3-man stack of Los Angeles Dodgers in their great match-up at Great American Ball Park against the RHP Tanner Roark. Roark has been solid this season, posting a 3.50 ERA, however, has really struggled agianst LHB’s this season, allowing LHB’s to post .329 average & .971 OPS.
For the Dodgers, we’re going to go with Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, and Joc Pederson.
Seager has struggled a bit this season, hitting just .236 on the season, but has been heating up as of late as over the past week he is hitting .316 with 2 HR’s & 7 RBI’s. Seager has been outstanding during “day” games this season, posting a .343 average & 1.101 OPS.
Bellinger has been putting up video-game like numbers this season as the slugging OF comes into this match-up with a .409 average with 16 HR’s & 42 RBI’s. Bellinger is hitting .528 in “day” games this season, and has posted a .446 avg/1.386 ops vs. RHP on the season.
Joc Pederson is hitting just .218 on the season, however, has been lacking in the power department as he has 14 HR’s on the season. Pederson has a 1.040 OPS vs. RHP on the season and is 4 for 7 with a double & triple agianst Roark in his career.
Rounding out the team tonight, will be the big bats of Paul Goldschmidt & Marcell Ozuna of the St. Louis Cardinals in their matchup agianst the Drew Smyly of the Texas Rangers. Smyly has really struggled this season, posting a 6.85 ERA & 1.73 WHIP and is allowing his opponents to post a .872 OPS against him.
Goldschmidt comes into this game with just a .258 average, however, does have 10 HR’s & 24 RBI’s on the season. Goldschmidt has always fared well agianst LHP as over his last three seasons, he has posted a .315 average & 1.012 OPS.
Ozuna is hitting just .226 on the season and has struggled recently, however, he has still be producing offensively as he has 13 HR’s & 40 RBI’s on the season. Similar to Goldschmidt, Ozuna has historically fared well agianst LHP as over his last three seasons, he has posted a .303 average & .875 OPS.
As always, I will make any necessary updates due to confirmed lineups, weather, etc. I will do my best to update the post but if it’s a last-second update, it’s easier for me to post that with an image on Twitter (@BrettCU05).
