Happy Sunday. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend and happy Father’s Day!
Let’s take a look at today’s MLB FanDuel 11-game “Main Slate” that starts at 1:05pm.
On the mound, we’re going with James Paxton of the Yankees in his match-up agianst the Chicago White Sox. Paxton has struggled since returning from injury, however, still has some decent numbers as he is posting a 4.04 ERA & 1.29 WHIP on the season. Paxton has strong K-upside as he is posting a 11.76 K/9 ratio on the season and you have to like his match-up against a White Sox team that ranks 23rd in team strikeout rate.
On the offensive side, we’re starting off out lineup with a 3-man stack of Philadelphia Phillies in Cesar Hernandez, Scott Kingery, & Bryce Harper against Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz. Foltynewicz hasn’t looked like himself this season as he comes into this game with a 6.02 ERA & 1.32 WHIP while allowing at least 4 ER’s in 5 of his 9 starts. Foltynewicz has really struggled with the HR ball also, as he currently has a 2.74 HR/9 ratio.
Hernandez has struggled as of late this season, however, he still is hitting a respectable .265 with 7 HR’s & 33 RBI’s. I don’t mind rolling with the switch-hitting Hernandez tonight as all 7 of HR’s have come as an LHB and he has posted a .818 OPS vs. RHP’s this season.
Scott Kingery is having a monster season for the Phillies as he comes into this game with a .347 average with 8 HR’s & 21 RBI’s. Kingery is hitting .455 over the past week with 4 HR’s and has a .349 average/1.106 OPS in 83 AB’s vs. RHP this season.
Bruce Harper isn’t living up to his contract as of yet for the Phillies however, there is no denying his HR upside and he has a solid 1.002 OPS vs. Foltynewicz in his career.
We’re going with Matt Adams of the Washington Nationals at 1B as he always brings HR-upside at a reasonable cost. Arizona will be throwing a bullpen game today, but it looks like at least the first two pitchers (Bradley & Goodley) will be RHP’s so I don’t mind rolling the dice with Adams.
We have a 2-man stack of Baltimore Orioles in Renato Nunez & Trey Mancini in their match-up agianst the LHP Brian Johnson of the Red Sox. Johnson will be making his first outing of the season and as I think we’ll see a lot of an overused Red Sox bullpen today, I think the Orioles are in a solid spot today.
Nunez has an impressive 16 HR’s on the season and has been solid vs. LHP’s as he has posted a .284 average/.591 slugging percentage/.928 OPS.
Mancini is having an All-Star season as the 3-year veteran is hitting .307 with 15 HR’s. Mancini is hitting .348 over the past week with 2 HR’s and has posted a .329 average/.996 OPS.
Jason Vargas is pitching well as of late for the Mets, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want some exposure agianst the LHP who can be prone to giving up HR’s. To get some action against Vargas, I’m paying up for the Cardinals Paul DeJong who has solid HR upside and is hitting .296 with 2 HR’s over the past week and has crushed the Mets this season to the tune of a .333 average (9f or 27) with 2 HR’s.
Rounding out the team, we’re going to take a chance on Jorge Soler who has been one of the few bright spots for the Royals as he comes into this game with an 18 HR’s & 49 RBI’s. Soler will be up agianst the LHP Martin Perez who has struggled more of late, giving up 16 ER’s in his last 4 starts.
As always, I will make any necessary updates due to confirmed lineups, weather, etc. I will do my best to update the post but if it’s a last-second update, it’s easier for me to post that with an image on Twitter (@BrettCU05).
