Had some time to put together a lineup for today’s MLB FanDuel “Very Early Only” Slate that features 5-games and starts at 12:10pm.
I went back and forth whether to pay up for Verlander or go with value, and I decided to go with value in Vince Velasquez of the Phillies. Velasquez hasn’t been great this season as he comes into this game with a 4.87 ERA & 1.39 WHIP, however, it’s hard to deny his upside in a solid match-up against the Detroit Tigers at the pitchers friendly Comerica Park. Velasquez does bring into this game some K-upside as he currently is sporting a solid 10.33 K/9 ratio and faces a Tigers team that ranks 29th in team batting average vs. RHB’s (.228 average) and 29th in team strikeout rate (9.93 K’s/game). I’m hoping Velasquez can get through 6 innings today while piling up 6-10 K’s.
On the offensive end, we’re going to hope for some run support for Velasquez and we’re going with a 4-man Philadelphia stack against Detroit’s RHP Jordan Zimmerman. Zimmerman comes into this game with a 7.51 ERA & 1.69 WHIP on the season while giving up 20 ER’s in his last 11.0 IP. Zimmerman is allowing opponents to post a .322 average against him on the season and has struggled against both LHB’s & RHB’s as they both are hitting over .300 against him.
For the Phillies, we’re going with J.T. Realmuto, Cesar Hernandez, Jean Segura (keep an eye out to make sure he is playing today), & Bryce Harper.
With all the money we’re saving with Velasquez, we have some big bats filling out the rest of our lineup.
We have Rafael Devers who is having a breakout season hitting .322 with 20 HR’s & 77 RBI’s up against Charlie Morton of the Rays. Morton has been tough this season, however, struggled in his last start against the Yankees and Devers has posted a .342 average/1.016 OPS vs. RHP on the season.
Juan Soto didn’t have the big night we were hoping for last night, however, I think he is an equally good spot tonight against the RHP Jon Gray of the Rockies. Gray has allowed 4 HR’s in his last 3 starts and is hitting .329 with 8 HR’s at Nationals Park this season.
Staying in this match-up, I’m going with Colorado’s David Dahl who has some solid HR-upside against the Nationals Erick Fedde who is allowing LHB’s to post a .316 average/.868 OPS against him on the season.
Rounding out the team with be the rookie sensation Yordan Alvarez who will be up against Chris Bassitt of the A’s.
