DFS - Fantasy Baseball - MLB Fanduel Single Game Showdown - SFG/CHC (2:20 PM) - 8/22/19
Thursday, August 22, 2019 at 1:20 PM (N/A)
We had a hot start to our lineups last night and although we didn’t finish strong, our 108.1-point performance was good enough to cash in our 50/50’s.
We don’t have much afternoon baseball today, but we do have a single game match-up with the SFG/CHC that starts at 2:20pm that we’re going to make a run at!
It should be a pretty decent pitching match-up today as we have Jeff Samardzija going for the Giants and Kyle Hendricks going for the Cubs.
Samardzija has been lights out as of late for the Giants, allowing just 5 ER’s over his last five starts and comes into this game with a 3.54 ERA & 1.12 WHIP. Samardzija is holding opponents to just a .225 batting average this season (.238 vs. LHB’s; .214 vs. RHB’s) and currently has a 1.35 HR/9 ratio. Samardzija has had success agianst the Cubs in his career, as he is holding the current Cubs roster to just a .186 average (30 for 161).
Henricks had a tough start against Cincinnati recently, but outside of that performances, he has also been incredible as of late as he has held his opponents to 2 ER’s or less in 8 of his last 9 starts. Hendricks comes into this game with a 3.37 ERA & 1.13 WHIP and has had pretty equal success against LHB’s (.243 average/.697 OPS) & RHB’s (.246 average/.688 OPS). Hendricks is holding the current Giants lineup to just a .216 average/.556 OPS in 125 total AB’s.
With most of the Over/Under lines set at 7.5 right now, the early indications as this is going to be a low scoring game, so I’m for the most part looking at the few individuals that have had some success against Samardzija & Hendricks.
For the Cubs, we’re going Kris Bryant in our MVP (2x) spot and Jason Heyward in a UTIL spot.
Bryant is hitting an impressive .298 at home this season, including a 2 for 5 performance last night with a HR & 2 RBI’s. Bryant is one of the few Cubs with success agianst Samardzija as he is 4 for 9 with a double & HR in his career vs. the RHP.
I’m going with Jason Hayward as although he only had 3 hits in 16 career AB’s agianst Samardzija, 2 of those hits are for HR’s. Hayward has some extra value leading off in the lineup today and I’m hoping he can lead off the game with a big hit.
For the Giants, we’re going with Kevin Pillar in our All-Star spot (1.5x), while we’re going with Scooter Gennett & Mike Yastrzemski in Utility spots.
I like Pillar in the All-Star spot as he should be less owned in this spot and has some decent history vs. Hendricks as he is 2 for 5 with a double agianst him. Pillar has some HR-pop as he has 19 HR’s on the season, and I like him in this spot today hitting 6th.
Alex Dickerson is 0-6 lifetime against Hendricks, however, he splits are too solid against RHP this season for me to pass up on at $6,000. Dickerson has posted a .349 average/1.066 OPS vs RHP on the season and has an even more impressive .394 average during “day” games this season.
Rounding out the team, we’re going with the red-hot Mike Yastrzemski who is hitting .407 with 4 HR’s over the past week. Yastrzemski has posted a .943 OPS in “away” games this season and I don’t mind taking a chance on him as he will be seeing Hendricks for the first time in his career this afternoon.
