Update (6:45 PM) - Had to make some adjustments. Just going to update the image as we only got 15 minutes until tip-off! Good luck!
DFS – Fantasy Basketball – NBA DraftKings Initial Lineup – 1/11/19
We couldn’t get it done last night as our 263.5 DraftKings point performance fell short of both our 50/50’s & GPP’s. We overextended ourselves with the value with the Pistons game, and although we did make the right move in getting LaMarcus Aldridge in our adjusted lineups, we just didn’t have enough action in the 154-147 Spurs/Thunder game to cash.
Let’s get back on the wining track as we look at tonight’s 9-game NBA DraftKings slate that starts at 7:00pm.
Leading off the team, we’re going to go to Minnesota and get Jeff Teague as he continues to put up solid numbers since returning from his recent injury. In his three games back, Teague is averaging 15.3 ppg, 8.7 apg, 3.3 rpg, & 2.4 apg while averaging an impressive 38.3 DraftKings points per game. Teague posted just 25.0 DraftKings points in his last matchup, but don’t get scared off from that as he was ejected with about 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Minnesota’s new head coach, Ryan Saunders, has said he wants the Timberwolves to push the pace more, and this could lead for a big game for Teague against a Dallas defense that ranks just 22nd against opposing PG’s.
I might have to dust my old basketball shoes off and see if I still make it as an out of shape, 35-year old, as the Utah Jazz are currently in a desperate need of a PG with Rubio, Exum and Neto all listed as out tonight. With the Jazz injury issues, I think Donovan Mitchell is a must-play tonight as he is going to see a bunch of minutes and is going to have an increased usage rate as he’ll most likely be the primary ball-handler. Mitchell has also played better as of late, averaging 24.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.2 apg, & 1.2 spg over his last 5 games and as the match-up is outstanding as they are playing the Lakers, I think we see Mitchell go off for 60+ DraftKings points tonight.
I’m going back to Minnesota and hoping that we can strike gold once against with Andrew Wiggins as we did on Wednesday when the former #1 pick went off for a monster 64.5 DraftKings point performance. Wiggins is averaging 17.9 ppg, 4.1 rpg, & 2.4 apg on the season, however, it was encouraging to see him pull down 10 boards against the Thunder on Wednesday. Minnesota downgraded Derrick Rose’s available to “questionable” yesterday and with Robert Covington out, this should continue to allow Wiggins to do everything he can on the offensive end to put up points. As we mentioned under Jeff Teague, Minnesota wants to play at a faster pace and this can only mean good things for Wiggins.
I’m completing my 3-man Minnesota stack and going with some value in Dario Saric. I think Saric is going to be one of the biggest benefactors of the Minnesota coaching change as I certainly see Ryan Saunders utilizing Saric more than how he was under Tom Thibodeau. Saric is averaging a modest 10.7 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 1.7 apg however, looked solid against the Thunder as he saw 25 minutes of action and posted a stat line of 15 pts, 7 reb, 2 ast, & 1 steal. Saric has a bunch of upside and I just don’t see how you can’t take the value with his price tag at just $4,500,
As you can tell, I’m a big fan of stacking both Minnesota & Utah tonight and it didn’t stop at the Center position as we have Rudy Gobert in the lineup as I think he’ll be more of a focal point in the Utah offense tonight in their solid match-up agianst the Lakers. Gobert comes into this game averaging 14.7 ppg, 12.3 rpg, 2.0 apg, & 2.0 bpg and although his numbers have been down as of late, Gobert certainly has huge upside with his ability to rack up rebounds & defensive stats. The Lakers currently rank 26th vs. opposing centers this season and I can see Gobert going off for a big night if he stays out of foul trouble.
We’ve been on Jeremy Lin over the past few games, and after posting back-to-back 30+ DraftKings point performances, there is no reason to jump off the Lin train now. I liked Lin more when he got the spot start when Huerter was out two games ago, however, I still think Lin has great value as he still saw 28 minutes against Brooklyn on Wednesday and put up an incredible 18 shots. Lin has averaged 14.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.6 apg, & 1.4 spg over his last 5 games and as he has hit at least 5x value in 4 of those 5 games, I think he is great, affordable option at just $4,600 tonight.
Instead of paying up for Giannis Antetokounmpo like I did with our initial FanDuel lineup, I decided to save the salary and go with a more balanced team on DraftKings and with our Forward spot, I’m going with Charlotte Jeremy Lamb. Lamb just came back from injury after missing three games and put up a solid 16 points, 6 rebound performance agianst the Clippers on Tuesday. The encouraging aspect was that Lamb did see 29 minutes and as I think he’ll be more in the range of 35 minutes tonight, I like him in what I think could be a high scoring matchup against Portland tonight.
With all the Minnesota players we have going, I’ve decided that as I wanted to get at least one Dallas Maverick in there as I’ll be hoping for a high-scoring, close game. I decided to go with Harrison Barnes, as although he is generally not my favorite guy to roster as he is so scoring dependent, I think the is a match-up that sets up nicely for Barnes to have a big night as the Timberwolves will be without Covington and currently rank just 30th against opposing SF’s. Barnes is averaging 18.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, & 1.1 apg on the season however, I think he can put up a 40+ DraftKings point performance tonight.
Check back later for updates.
