DFS – Fantasy Basketball – NBA FanDuel Initial Lineup – 1/1/19
UPDATE (7:05 PM) - Hi Everyone! Still don't know if Embiid is playing or not but I've made some final decisions on my FD lineup. I decided to replace Fox with Ben Simmons as the the matchup for Simmons agianst LAC is just too good to pass up. I like Fox still but he has been known to leave games due to injury in the pass and as we don't know how bad his shoulder is doing, I didn't want to take that risk. I decided that have 3 knicks players was too much, so I took out Noah Vonleh and replaced him with Griffin. We no longer have Jimmy Butler, but I decided to go with Malik Beasley as it looks like Garry Harris will be out again and he should be able to hit secent value in a great matchup agianst the Knicks. Image is updated below! Good luck!
Happy New Year’s Everyone!
It was a tough DFS night for both FanDuel lineups as with Anthony Davis being a late scratch, our lineups had no shot of cashing last night.
Let’s get back on track as we take a look at tonight’s 5-game NBA Slate that starts at 7:30pm tonight.
The PG position is a tough one as we have a ton of solid options in both the high price (Simmons, Lillard, Fox, Murray) and mid-price range (VanVleet, Mudiay), however, I’m taking my chances on both De’Aaron Fox & Emmanuel Mudiay. Both Fox & Mudiay are a bit banged up but have both said that they will play, and I think we can take advantage of this as I think they both will be a bit lower owned tonight.
De’Aaron Fox has been incredible as of late as over his last five games, he is averaging 18.6 ppg, 9.4 apg, 4.4 rpg, & 2.8 spg. Portland ranks just 24th in DRPM vs. opposing PG’s and is averaging 47.6 FanDuel points over his last 6 games.
Emmanuel Mudiay is having his best season in the NBA and we’re starting to see the potential that made him a the 7th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Mudiay seems to be highly motivated for this matchup against his former team and is averaging 16.0 ppg, 5.0 apg, 2.2 rpg over his last 5 games. Mudiay has had 39.2 FanDuel points in 4 of his last 9 games and as I expect him to put up about 20 shots tonight, I think he has some great value.
The biggest injury question of the night is Joel Embiid as he is once again questionable with a knee injury. This makes it a tough situation as the 76ers have a solid fantasy matchup against the LA Clippers however, as they are the last game on the slate (10:30 PM), we probably aren’t going to know Embiid’s status until after the slate locks. As I don’t want back-to-back slates in which my highest paid player is out, I’m currently going with Jimmy Butler who I think has upside whether or not Embiid plays. Butler was a disappointment in this same scenario against Portland on Sunday, however, I’m not too concerned about Butler and think this is a great bounce back matchup for him.
As I’m not going with Lillard at PG, I want to get at least two Trailblazers in my lineup and have done that with CJ McCollum & Maurice Harkless.
McCollum has once against been solid this season and comes into this game averaging 21.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, & 2.6 apg. McCollum is coming off an incredible performance against the 76ers in which he went for 35 points (13-18 FGM-FGA), 3 rebounds, & 3 assists and has a great matchup against the Kings who rank 29th in DEFF & 25th in DRPM vs. opposing SG’s.
We’ll have to keep an eye on the status of Maurice Harkless who is currently a GTD, however, as of right now, it looks like he is probable. I think Harkless is a great value option tonight as the matchup against the Kings is great and Harkless saw an average of 34 mpg in the back-to-back games against the Warriors in which he put up two 30+ FanDuel point performances. Harkless should be back in the starting lineup tonight if he is able to go and I think he can have another solid nights in this matchup.
I have Danilo Gallinari in my other SF spot as the Clippers have the highest implied scoring total on the slate and needed to ensure I had some exposure to them. Gallinari is pretty safe option tonight in this matchup and has been playing well as of late as over his last 5 games, he has posted averages of 20.0 ppg, 7.8 rpg, & 2.6 apg. Gallinari is shooting 50.0% from the field and 54.5% from beyond the arc in the span and I think he gets up 15-20 shots tonight, he’ll be able to get us 40+ points.
At the PF spot, I’m going back to the Luke Kornet & Noah Vonleh duo that has been great over the last two Knicks games.
I’m a bit surprised that Kornet’s price tag is still below the $4,000 range especially as he is now in the starting lineup and has seen an average of 30.5 mpg in his two starts. Kornet has a solid ability to knock down three-pointers and since becoming a starter, he is averaging 18.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, & 5.0 apg.
Noah Vonleh has been a consistent contributor for the Knicks this season and has been playing well as over his past 5 games, he is averaging 33.7 FanDuel points a game. In that same time span, Vonleh is averaging a double with 11.8 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, & 1.6 bpg and will be going agianst a Denver team that ranks just 16th in DEFF.
Rudy Gobert has been unbelievable as of late as Gobert has recorded 7 straight double-doubles which averaging 18.0 ppg, 13.4 rpg, & 2.6 bpg. Toronto really doesn’t have anyone in their current front court that can really matchup with Gobert and as we recently saw Niokla Vucevic dominate the Raptors for a 74.0 FanDuel point night, I like the upside that Gobert brings to the table tonight.
